Higher Education in Myanmar

Description

Since 2014 Bridging Borders has been partnering closely with a small teacher training college, St. Aloysius Gonzaga Institute for Higher Studies, to develop the first social work degree in the country. This work stems from relationships that began along the Thailand/Burma Border and led in 2016 to a Memorandum of Understanding with College of Social Work at the University of Utah.  In 2018 the Department of Rhetoric and Writing Studies from the University of Utah joined the partnership to support staff and student writing development, as well as engage in mutually-beneficial research. Currently, the work consists of a 9-month online Social Work Case Management Certificate Program from the University of Utah for SAG-HIS’s interns and the development of a community-based research program and undergraduate social work curriculum through support for staff mentoring, faculty exchanges, and workshops.

Location:  Taunggyi, Myanmar (St. Aloysius Gonzaga Institute for Higher Studies)
